HISTORY:

The T-28 trojan was a piston powered trainer which also saw duty around the world in COIN warfare. The trojan was originally designed for airforce use as a trainer, a role in which it performed throughout the 1950's. It was eventually adopted by the USMC USCG and USN, which also used it to train pilots, particularly in carrier landings up until the mid-1980's.

Surplus T-28's were provided to the South Vietnamese, Laotian and Thai airforces, and saw significant amounts of combat in the Vietnam war, primarily in a combat air support role. The USAF and USN also used them in a CAS role during the Vietnam war. They were also used in COIN warfare around the world by various nations and groups, including the CIA, French Air Force and Phillipine Airforce. The T-28 last saw combat during the Soccer War between Honduras and El Salvador, against F4U Corsairs, P-51 Mustangs and AT-6 Texans.

Little Known Trojan Fact: The first ever fighter aircraft of the North Vietnamese Air Force was a T-28 Trojan. It had been put into service after the Laotian airforce pilot defected.
